Membership Options

Primarily, NGOs or Non Profit Organizations can become member of DAISY Forum of India. Membership can be applied for in any of the following categories.

Membership Categories

Primary Member

Charitable organizations established on a not-for-profit basis that produces at least 1000 pages in DAISY Formats annually are eligible to become Primary Members of the Society. DAISY Formats includes Braille, Talking Book or E-text produced in compliance with DAISY Standards. The requirement for production of 1000 pages in DAISY Format will be mandatory only from the second year of the membership.

Thus, any charitable organization established on a not-for-profit basis may become a Primary Member even if it has not produced 1000 pages in DAISY Format during the first year of its membership. However, to continue as a Primary Member from second year onwards, the organisation should produce at least 1000 pages in DAISY Format prior to completion of one year of membership of DFI. A charitable organization established on a not-for-profit basis which has multiple production centres shall be eligible for multiple Primary Memberships (one such membership per production centre).

Only Primary Members have voting rights in the affairs of DFI.

Membership Fee: Rs. 5000 at the time of entry and Rs. 2000 every year for renewal of membership.

Associate Members

Any charitable organization established on a not-for-profit basis which is involved in the distribution of accessible material for persons with print disabilities is eligible for Associate Membership of the Society.

Membership Fee: Rs. 5000 at the time of entry and Rs. 2000 every year for renewal of membership.

Development Partners

Any not-for-profit organization that wishes to contribute through research and development activities in support or furtherance of the objectives of DFI is eligible to be admitted as a Development Partner.

Membership fee: There is no membership fee for this category.

Friends of the Society

Commercial concerns (companies or other entities) involved in any one or more of the following activities are eligible to become members of DFI in the “Friends” category.

  • Production and distribution of software and hardware,
  • Production of publications in accessible format for people who cannot read normal print
  • Provision of data conversion services to convert publications into formats accessible to persons with print disabilities
  • Provision of services to create web sites or software accessible to persons with print disabilities

Membership Fee: Rs. 5000 at the time of entry and Rs. 2000 every year for renewal of membership.

Supporters of the Society

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) division or department of a commercial concern (whether a company or any other entity) or of a funding agency can become member of DFI in the “Supporters of the Society” category.

Membership fee: There is no membership fee for this category.

Others

Any Government Departments or agency concerned with issues relating to persons with print disabilities can become a member of DFI in the “Others” category

Membership fee: There is no membership fee for this category.

Subscribers

Universities, School Libraries, Public Libraries or any such institution can take up membership of DFI as “Subscribers” mainly to take advantage of the Accessible Books Exchange Program (DAISY India Library).

Subscription fee for University and School Libraries – Rs. 2200/- per year
Subscription fee for Public Libraries – Rs. 2100/- per year
Subscription fee for any other eligible organisation – Rs. 2000/- per year

Membership Benefits

  • Training and technical support on all aspects of accessible books creation and distribution
  • Participation in combine projects for production and distribution of accessible books.
  • Becoming a part of worldwide network of libraries and organizations.
  • Experience sharing and effective troubleshooting using common mailing lists
  • DFI Members organizations get both admin and user level access to the Daisy India Library. This entitles them to:
    • Upload their full books collection on DAISY India Library
    • Increased outreach; the member organizations can serve print disabled persons all over the country
    • Right to download any book produced anywhere in the country for their students/individual members
    • Software system to manage their book distribution or production
